UDP 6885
Synopsis
- UDP port 6885 is commonly used by the BitTorrent protocol as part of its historic default listening range 6881–6889.
- Real-world clients that may use UDP 6885 include μTorrent and BitTorrent (Mainline), which historically listened in this range, and modern clients like qBittorrent, Vuze/Azureus, and Transmission when configured to use that port for uTP peer traffic and the BitTorrent DHT.
- BitTorrent clients typically use the same configured port for both TCP connections and UDP-based features (uTP/DHT), so a client set to port 6885 will accept UDP on 6885.
- Security note: BitTorrent’s UDP-based features have been abused for reflection/amplification DDoS attacks, and scanners often probe the 6881–6889 range to find exposed clients.
