UDP 6886

ProtocolUDP
Port6886
LabelsBitTorrent range

Synopsis

  • UDP port 6886 is commonly used by BitTorrent clients as part of the legacy 6881–6889 listening range. Real-world software that may use UDP 6886 includes μTorrent, BitTorrent Mainline, Vuze/Azureus, qBittorrent, and Transmission, for features like DHT (BEP 5 over UDP), μTP/uTP (BEP 29), and other UDP-based peer traffic. Many clients bind the same listening port for both TCP and UDP, so when configured in the 6881–6889 range, UDP 6886 is active for peer/DHT communications. ISPs historically identified and throttled this range because of its association with BitTorrent. BitTorrent’s UDP services (including DHT and uTP) have been abused in the past for reflection/amplification DDoS attacks, so exposed UDP 688x ports can appear in such abuse scenarios.
