UDP 6884
Synopsis
- UDP port 6884 is commonly used by BitTorrent traffic, especially DHT (BEP 5 KRPC over UDP) and uTP peer connections.
- BitTorrent clients such as Vuze/Azureus, BitComet, qBittorrent, and Deluge historically listen in the 6881–6889 range, so many deployments use UDP/6884 for these functions.
- Older BitTorrent mainline clients (e.g., µTorrent/BitTorrent) also operated in this range before many moved to randomized ports, and network captures still frequently show DHT/uTP on UDP/6884.
- This port has been associated with exploitation: BitTorrent’s UDP-based features (DHT/uTP) have been abused for DDoS reflection/amplification by sending spoofed requests to clients listening on ports like 6884 (documented by industry reports such as Akamai SIRT circa 2015).
