TCP 9201
Synopsis
- TCP port 9201 is assigned to WAP-WSP (Wireless Application Protocol – Wireless Session Protocol), used by legacy WAP 1.x mobile browsing.
- Real-world products that exposed 9201/TCP include Openwave/Phone.com Mobile Access Gateway, Nokia WAP Gateway, Ericsson WAP Gateway, and the open-source Kannel WAP gateway.
- Mobile carriers (e.g., Vodafone, AT&T and others in the early 2000s) deployed these gateways to serve feature-phone browsers.
- Deployments often paired this with 9200/UDP (connectionless WSP) and 9203/TCP for the secure WSP variant.
- Outside of legacy WAP infrastructure, modern software rarely uses TCP 9201.
