Synopsis

  • Google Cast devices (Chromecast, Nest Hub/Google Home, Android TV with Cast) expose an unencrypted HTTP API on TCP 8008 (for endpoints like /setup/eureka_info) for status/control; when exposed to the internet, attackers have abused this to hijack playback or reboot devices.
  • Apple CalendarServer (CalDAV/CardDAV), including the macOS Server Calendar/Contacts service, uses TCP 8008 by default for HTTP (and 8443 for HTTPS).
  • SAP application servers (SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP/Java or SAP Web Dispatcher) map HTTP to 80, so an instance “08” listens on TCP 8008; SAP HANA XS classic follows the same 80xx scheme.
