TCP 6008
Synopsis
- X Window System (X11) uses TCP ports 6000–6063; specifically, port 6008 is the listening port for X11 display :8.
- Real-world software that can listen on 6008 includes the Xorg server on Linux/Unix and XQuartz on macOS (when TCP listening is enabled), as well as legacy X servers on Solaris/AIX in classic remote X or XDMCP setups.
- Open X11 ports (including 6008) have historically been targeted for exploitation—attackers may capture keystrokes, screenshots, or hijack sessions if X11 access controls (e.g., MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE) are weak or disabled.
