TCP 6007

ProtocolTCP
Port6007
LabelsX11—used between an X client and server over the network

Synopsis

  • TCP port 6007 is assigned to the X Window System (X11) and corresponds to display :7 on an X server.
  • X.Org Server on Unix/Linux can listen on 6007 when display :7 is active and TCP listening is enabled (for example, startx/Xorg with -listen tcp).
  • macOS XQuartz can expose display :7 on TCP 6007 if “Allow connections from network clients” is enabled.
  • Windows X servers such as Xming, VcXsrv, and Hummingbird Exceed use the X11 TCP range (6000–6063), so display :7 uses port 6007.
  • SSH X11 forwarding may proxy via localhost ports, but when X11 uses TCP, the server maps display numbers to 6000+n, making :7 use 6007.
  • Security note: exposed X11 ports (including 6007) have been abused for unauthorized display access and keystroke/screenshot capture when access controls are weak or misconfigured (e.g., xhost +), so many systems disable X11 TCP listening by default.
