UDP 9600
Synopsis
- Omron’s FINS (Factory Interface Network Service) protocol commonly uses UDP port 9600 for PLC communications.
- Real-world examples include Omron CJ/CS/CP/NJ/NX PLCs accessed by software such as Omron CX-Programmer, Sysmac Studio (for certain operations), Inductive Automation Ignition’s Omron FINS driver, and Kepware KEPServerEX’s “Omron FINS Ethernet” driver, all of which can operate over UDP/9600.
- The port is also registered by IANA for “micromuse-ncpw,” associated with Micromuse/IBM Netcool network management software, though this is seen far less often in the wild than FINS.
- Security note: FINS/UDP provides little to no authentication; internet-exposed UDP/9600 services on Omron PLCs have been abused for unauthorized memory read/write and device control, so they should be firewalled/segmented.
