TCP 8880

ProtocolTCP
Port8880
LabelsAlternate port of CDDB (Compact Disc Database) protocol

Synopsis

  • Plesk (Parallels/Odin; now Plesk Obsidian) uses TCP port 8880 for its web control panel over HTTP, often redirecting to HTTPS on 8443; admins commonly access http://server:8880 on hosting servers.
  • The CD Database Protocol alternate port (cddbp-alt) runs on TCP 8880 for CDDB/FreeDB/gnudb lookups; clients like Exact Audio Copy (EAC), abcde, Grip, and older Winamp CDDB plug-ins connect to servers such as gnudb.gnudb.org on this port.
  • Many hosting providers’ legacy Plesk deployments (e.g., IONOS/1&1 and older GoDaddy Plesk installs) expose 8880 for customer logins.
  • Security: attackers frequently scan 8880 to find Plesk panels and have exploited outdated Plesk instances, so exposing this port without proper hardening is risky.
