Synopsis

  • TCP 8834 is the default port for Tenable Nessus (nessusd) web interface and API, typically accessed at https://hostname:8834/.
  • Tenable Nessus Manager also listens on 8834 and uses it for communication with managed scanners and on‑prem Tenable Agents.
  • Tenable.sc (formerly SecurityCenter) connects to its managed Nessus scanners over TCP 8834 to schedule scans and pull results.
  • Tenable Core–Nessus, Nessus Professional, and Nessus Essentials expose their UI on 8834 by default.
  • Because exposed Nessus interfaces on 8834 identify valuable security tooling and present a login surface, attackers often scan this port and may attempt credential or vulnerability exploitation; restrict and authenticate access.
