Synopsis

  • Oracle GlassFish (and Payara Server) use TCP 8181 as the default HTTPS listener for the default domain.
  • Apache Karaf’s HTTP service/web console listens on 8181 by default; Karaf-based stacks such as Apache ServiceMix and some Talend ESB/openHAB deployments inherit this.
  • The OpenDaylight SDN controller exposes its RESTCONF northbound API on port 8181 (e.g., http://host:8181/restconf).
  • ONOS (Open Network Operating System) serves its web GUI and REST API on 8181 (e.g., http://host:8181/onos/ui).
  • QZ Tray (desktop printing bridge) runs a local HTTPS/WebSocket service on 8181 for application-to-printer communication.
  • Security note: Attackers often scan 8181 because these admin consoles/APIs may be exposed with default or weak credentials; misconfigured Karaf/ONOS/OpenDaylight services have been exploited for unauthorized control or code execution.
