TCP 7070
Synopsis
- RealNetworks RealServer/Helix Universal Server (and RealProxy) commonly listen on TCP 7070 for RealAudio/RealVideo control and setup traffic, using protocols like RTSP and the older PNM/PNA, consumed by RealPlayer.
- Helix DNA Server (the open-source variant from RealNetworks) also uses TCP 7070 by default for streaming control.
- Apple’s QuickTime/Darwin Streaming Server historically exposed RTSP on TCP 7070 (in addition to 554), per Apple guidance to allow streaming through firewalls that permitted 7070.
- Security note: Port 7070 has a long history of exploits targeting RealServer/Helix services (e.g., past buffer overflows via malformed RTSP/PNA requests), so it’s frequently scanned by attackers.
