UDP 6882
Synopsis
- UDP port 6882 is commonly used by BitTorrent clients for peer-to-peer functions.
- Clients such as μTorrent/BitTorrent (Mainline), qBittorrent, Transmission, Vuze/Azureus, and rTorrent use UDP on their listening port for BitTorrent DHT and μTP; historically these clients listened in the 6881–6889 range, so UDP 6882 is frequently observed.
- BitTorrent’s Mainline DHT runs over UDP; when a client is configured to port 6882, its DHT queries and responses use UDP 6882.
- μTP (Micro Transport Protocol), the UDP-based transport many BitTorrent clients use for peer connections, also uses the client’s UDP listening port (e.g., 6882).
- Some software built on BitTorrent, such as Blizzard’s Background Downloader/Battle.net Agent for World of Warcraft and StarCraft II updates, has historically used ports in the 6881–6999 range and may use UDP 6882 for peer traffic.
- Certain BitTorrent clients also interact with UDP trackers using their UDP listening port, so packets can originate from or arrive at UDP 6882 when that port is configured.
