- Public IRC networks offering plaintext access on 6667 include Libera.Chat, OFTC, EFnet, Undernet, and DALnet.
- IRC bouncers such as ZNC often listen on 6667 to accept client connections and relay to upstream IRC networks.
- IRC clients like mIRC, HexChat, irssi, and WeeChat typically connect to servers on port 6667 by default.
- While TLS connections commonly use 6697, many servers still keep 6667 enabled for legacy/plaintext access.
