UDP 6666
Synopsis
- Tuya/Smart Life IoT devices use UDP port 6666 for LAN discovery and initial pairing beacons in their local protocol.
- Real software that uses this includes TuyAPI (Node.js), PyTuya/TinyTuya (Python), and Home Assistant integrations like localtuya/tuya-local, which broadcast to 255.255.255.255:6666 to find devices.
- Common Tuya-based products using this port include Gosund and Teckin smart plugs, Merkury/Geeni bulbs, and many Feit Electric/Treatlife devices.
- The Homebridge plugin homebridge-tuya-lan also relies on UDP 6666 discovery for Tuya devices.
- Security note: older Tuya firmware exposed unauthenticated discovery/control on UDP 6666, which has been leveraged on local networks for unauthorized control and to install alternative firmware; newer Tuya protocols added encryption and stricter checks.
- Outside the Tuya ecosystem, there is no widely adopted, standardized protocol commonly known to use UDP/6666.
