TCP 5916
Synopsis
- TCP port 5916 is used by VNC remote desktop software because VNC servers listen on 5900 + display number; port 5916 corresponds to display :16.
- Real-world examples include RealVNC, TightVNC, TigerVNC/Xvnc, and UltraVNC when configured for display 16.
- Virtualization platforms that expose VNC consoles—such as QEMU/KVM (via libvirt/Proxmox) and VMware VMs when VNC is enabled—also use this scheme, so a console on display 16 listens on 5916.
- Because it is within the VNC range (5900–5999), attackers routinely scan and brute‑force 5916 when VNC services are exposed to the internet; restrict access and require strong authentication if used.
