UDP 554
Synopsis
- UDP port 554 is used by the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP).
- Many IP cameras and NVRs expose RTSP on 554/UDP, including Hikvision, Dahua, Axis Communications, Reolink, and Ubiquiti (UniFi) cameras.
- Video management systems such as Blue Iris, iSpy/Agent DVR, ZoneMinder, Milestone XProtect, and Genetec Security Center ingest camera feeds via RTSP on port 554 (UDP supported by many devices).
- Streaming servers that implement RTSP on UDP 554 include Apple Darwin/QuickTime Streaming Server, RealNetworks Helix/RealServer, Wowza Streaming Engine, and Live555-based servers.
- Clients and SDKs like VLC media player, FFmpeg, GStreamer, and Apple QuickTime can initiate RTSP sessions to endpoints listening on UDP/554.
- Consumer devices also use it, e.g., Wyze cameras with the RTSP beta firmware publish streams on port 554.
- Security note: UDP/TCP 554 is widely scanned and abused to access exposed RTSP camera feeds or brute‑force weak credentials, making it a common target in IP‑camera exploitation.
