UDP 4569
Synopsis
- UDP port 4569 is the default port for the Inter-Asterisk eXchange protocol version 2 (IAX2).
- Asterisk PBX and Asterisk-based systems (e.g., FreePBX Distro, Issabel/Elastix, PBX in a Flash) use IAX2 on UDP 4569 for VoIP trunking and client registrations.
- AllStarLink (a ham radio repeater-linking network built on Asterisk) uses IAX2 on UDP 4569 for inter-node connections.
- Many softphones implement IAX2 on this port, including Zoiper and legacy clients such as iaxComm/Kiax.
- Hardware like the Digium IAXy ATA used IAX2 over UDP 4569 to connect analog phones to Asterisk.
- Other telephony engines can speak IAX2 as well, such as FreeSWITCH via its mod_iax module.
- Security: attackers do scan UDP 4569 to brute-force IAX credentials for VoIP toll fraud, and Asterisk has had past IAX2-related denial-of-service vulnerabilities.
