TCP 3888
Synopsis
- Apache ZooKeeper uses TCP port 3888 for leader election traffic between ZooKeeper servers in an ensemble (configured as server.X=host:2888:3888 in zoo.cfg).
- This port appears in real deployments that bundle ZooKeeper, such as Apache Kafka (pre-KIP-500 releases), Apache HBase, Hadoop (HDFS/YARN HA), and SolrCloud clusters, where ZooKeeper peers communicate over 3888 for elections.
- It is an internal server-to-server port (clients use 2181; follower–leader sync uses 2888; leader election uses 3888).
- Enterprise distributions (e.g., Cloudera/Hortonworks stacks, Confluent Platform) also use 3888 internally for their ZooKeeper ensembles.
