Synopsis

  • UDP port 2425 is most commonly used by the IP Messenger (IPMsg) LAN instant-messaging protocol.
  • Official and popular clients such as IP Messenger for Windows, IPMessenger for macOS, and g2ipmsg (Linux) use UDP 2425 for peer discovery, status broadcasts, and message notifications on local subnets.
  • Many implementations negotiate file transfers and message receipts via UDP 2425 and may open a TCP connection afterward for the actual file data.
  • Chinese LAN messengers derived from IPMsg—including 飞鸽传书 (Feige/Flying Pigeon) and 飞秋 (FeiQ)—also default to UDP 2425 and interoperate on that port.
  • Numerous organizations (e.g., schools and offices in Japan and China) deploy these LAN messengers and rely on UDP 2425 for internal chat on closed networks.
