TCP 2086
Synopsis
- cPanel & WHM (WebHost Manager) uses TCP 2086 for its non-SSL admin interface and APIs (WHM API 1/2, UAPI), served by the cpsrvd service; administrators often access it via http://server:2086.
- Many WHM-integrated plugins (e.g., Softaculous, ConfigServer Security & Firewall/LFD, Imunify) are presented through the WHM interface on this same port.
- Major hosting platforms that deploy cPanel/WHM (e.g., HostGator, A2 Hosting, Namecheap cPanel servers) commonly have WHM reachable on 2086 (or redirect to 2087 for HTTPS).
- GNUnet, a peer‑to‑peer framework, is registered to use TCP/UDP 2086 and some deployments listen on this port.
- Security: Port 2086 is frequently targeted for brute-force and exploitation of cPanel/WHM flaws (e.g., mass scanning after CVE-2023-29489), so many admins restrict it or require 2087/HTTPS with IP allowlisting.
