TCP port 2078 is used by cPanel & WHM’s Web Disk service (cpdavd), which provides WebDAV over SSL/TLS.
On hosting servers running cPanel (e.g., Bluehost, HostGator, A2 Hosting), users can mount their account storage via WebDAV clients at https://server:2078.
Common clients include Windows’ built-in WebDAV, macOS Finder, Cyberduck, and Transmit.
Many cPanel setups also expose 2077 (non-SSL) for the same Web Disk feature, with 2078 as the encrypted endpoint.
This port is frequently scanned and targeted for credential brute-force attempts against cPanel WebDAV logins; admins often mitigate by disabling Web Disk if unused, enforcing strong authentication, or restricting access by IP.
