Synopsis

  • Cisco IOS reverse Telnet: TCP port 2000 + line number, so TCP 2001 connects to line 1 on access/terminal servers such as Cisco 2511, AS5200/AS5300, and routers with NM-16A/NM-32A async modules.
  • Digi console/terminal servers: Digi PortServer TS/CM and Digi Connect families expose each serial port as a raw TCP socket; TCP 2001 is the default for serial port 1.
  • MRV In-Reach/LX (later ADVA) console servers similarly use TCP 2001 by default for raw access to serial port 1.
  • Security note: Open TCP 2001 on these devices can grant direct, often unauthenticated, console access to attached equipment, so it is a common target in scans and penetration tests.
