UDP 1813
Synopsis
- UDP port 1813 is used by the RADIUS Accounting protocol.
- FreeRADIUS uses UDP 1813 by default for accounting (Acct-Start/Stop and Interim-Update).
- Microsoft Network Policy Server (NPS) on Windows Server supports RADIUS accounting on UDP 1813.
- Network devices from Cisco (IOS/IOS-XE/ASA), Juniper (Junos), Aruba/HPE, Palo Alto Networks, MikroTik RouterOS, and Ubiquiti UniFi send RADIUS accounting to servers on UDP 1813.
- Commercial RADIUS servers such as Radiator, ClearBox RADIUS Server, and TekRADIUS listen on UDP 1813 for accounting.
- Large federations like eduroam use UDP 1813 for accounting between institutional RADIUS infrastructure.
- Security note: Exposed RADIUS accounting services on UDP 1813 have been abused for UDP reflection/amplification DDoS attacks when misconfigured to accept requests from the public internet.
