TCP 1812
Synopsis
- Port 1812/tcp is used by the RADIUS Authentication protocol over TCP as defined in RFC 6613.
- FreeRADIUS (v3.x) supports RADIUS over TCP and can listen on 1812/tcp for authentication traffic.
- Radiator RADIUS Server implements RFC 6613 and uses 1812/tcp for authentication when enabled.
- The FreeRADIUS radclient tool can send RADIUS requests over TCP to servers on 1812/tcp.
- Some RADIUS proxies/gateways (for example, deployments using FreeRADIUS as a proxy) use 1812/tcp to connect to back-end RADIUS servers for more reliable delivery than UDP.
- Security: Internet-exposed 1812/tcp services are commonly scanned and brute-forced to obtain RADIUS credentials or exploit misconfigurations, so restrict access and prefer TLS-protected variants where possible.
