Synopsis

  • UDP port 1033 is assigned to NetInfo, the directory service used by NeXTSTEP/OPENSTEP systems; the netinfod service used UDP/1033 (and TCP/1033) for directory lookups and server discovery/binding on local networks.
  • Early Apple Mac OS X (including Mac OS X Server up through roughly 10.4 “Tiger”) also shipped NetInfo and could listen on UDP/1033 for NetInfo operations.
  • Apple later migrated to Open Directory/LDAP and removed NetInfo in 10.5 “Leopard,” so modern systems rarely use UDP/1033 outside of legacy environments.
